Will's Bday Dinner
I made a booking for Jackson's Restaurant a month ago. I have always wanted to go there, as all I have heard was terrific things about this place, and I thought it would be a great place to treat Will for his birthday.
To make it even more spesh, I went out and bought a dress... a purple boob-tube thingo! It was a really pretty dress!!! Though I do wish I had more time to figure out my hair. I had to get ready (shower, dressed, hair, make-up) in 20 Mins... I am getting pretty good at getting ready in a rush... But it is SOOO annoying. I miss being able to get ready to music in my own time!
Anywho... we drove to Highgate. I had hoped to keep where we were going as a surprise... but I ended up telling Will, who in the end had already sorta had Jackson's Restaurant in his mind because when his mom asked him where I was taking him, he said "somewhere in Highgate" and his mom instantly guessed Jackson's.
Anywho... after finding the place and finding parking (which is a bitch!) Once we entered the restaurant... oooh... it was good! The setting was very comfortable, very intimate. The lighting was dim which I guess added to the effect. The service... was VERY VERY good. Wait staff was very friendly, tentative, and very helpful with wine selection and explaining the menu. What we ended up ordering was...
1. Entree - Raw oysters with Lime and Chilli Sorbet
2. (The complimentary "intruder" dish) - Some sort of Crepe, with a pig that is fed with only acorns, topped with green pea ice cream and some special mayonnaise. YUMMY!

Black angus beef fillet, yorkshire pudding, foie gras, & onion sauce

Moroccan spiced duck breast, confit duck leg, orange, almond & date salad
4(a) Dessert - Wills
Strawberry vanilla slice with lavender ice cream

pineapple custard crepe, and pineapple soufflé with lemongrass icecream
The food was soooooo yummy! Like all the different tastes were so interesting! It was almost like art, where an artist would experiment with different painting techniques, brush strokes, colors, mediums like oils, or watercolor, or pastels etc. At Jackson's it was so fun trying these strange and novel concoctions. I mean the Entree and the intruder dish was very interesting. Who would have thought to eat raw oysters with sorbet! and sorbet that was lime and chili flavored!!!?!?!
Because of the time contraint that we had (we were also going to Asia Cocktail) we could not do the degustation menu ... which is something I had originally planned to do. NOW after seeing other tables having it, I really really want to do try it now. Just to be able to be shocked and surprise of tasting something completely new! It reminds me of Ratatouille!
